100% Cotton vs. 60/40 Blend: Which Should You Choose?

If you want a soft, breathable feel in warm weather, 100% cotton is often the better choice. Cotton absorbs moisture, though it can stay damp longer after a hot day or a wash, so it may not be your favorite if you need clothing to dry quickly.

A 60% cotton and 40% polyester blend can be a practical choice when you want some of cotton’s feel with less wrinkling and faster drying. It may feel less breathable than all-cotton fabric, especially in heat, but the weave and weight of the fabric also make a noticeable difference.

A cotton-polyester blend generally holds its shape better and is less prone to shrinking than 100% cotton, making it convenient for clothes you wash frequently. It may also need less ironing, although care depends on the garment’s construction and finish.

All-cotton clothing can shrink or wrinkle more, particularly when washed or dried with high heat. For either fabric, follow the care label, wash in cool water when appropriate, and avoid overdrying if you want to help preserve the fit.

Choose 100% cotton if airflow and a natural-fiber feel matter most to you; choose the 60/40 blend if quicker drying and easier upkeep are higher priorities. For a loose outfit, pay attention to the cut as well as the fiber content: room through the shoulders, waist, and hips can affect how comfortable you feel when you move.
